Shareholders quite simply are no longer "silent partners" in a company. Long gone are the days of "sleepy" AGMs, which are now much more robust affairs characterised by shareholders flexing their muscles. A number of high profile companies have hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. In some instances, shareholder rebellions have even led to the exit of a company's C-Suite team. The pattern is now there for all to see: shareholders are emboldened, and increasingly their bite is worse than their bark.
