This virtual classroom will provide an entertaining and informative introduction to a range of different writing styles that practising lawyers will be able to use for communication and publication.
The course will begin with a warm up exercise for participants. There will then be a presentation on clear English and how to write it, as well as a discussion of writing styles, and how to tailor work towards the target audience.
A second writing exercise for participants will be to write a short article as if Donoghue v Stevenson had just been decided: they will be asked to do so as if for professional clients, for the general public, or for the rest of the firm.
Longer form writing will also be covered, and in particular how a legal textbook should be structured, as well as some hints and tips on working with editors and publishers.
